Every town has a name. And every name carries something of the place that came before us.
Across Ireland, names were shaped by the landscape, by the people who lived there, and by the language they spoke. A hill, a river, a church, a fort, a family, or a meeting place could all give a town its name.
Many of those names have survived for centuries, even as the world around them has changed. Their Irish forms preserve something of Ireland’s older landscape and memory.
