Aran Zipper Cardigan
Regular price $129.95Story
A beautifully shaped expression of traditional Irish knitwear, this Aran Zipper Cardigan combines a graceful longer silhouette with an extraordinary variety of heritage Aran stitches.
The cardigan features a striking trellis cable running alongside the full-length zip and continuing up into the double stand-up collar. The same trellis cable extends down the sleeves into the cuffs, while fine rope cables define the cuffs and hem.
Below the horizontal rib at the waist, three traditional cables gradually separate into a dramatic zigzag pattern, creating the cardigan's gently flared shape at the sides. The design also incorporates mirrored rope cables, hugs and kisses stitch, regular rope cables, and 2x2 moss stitch.
Knitted in Ireland from 100% Merino wool, this longer-length cardigan is a wonderful showcase of traditional Aran craftsmanship brought into a sophisticated contemporary design.
A beautifully shaped Irish cardigan filled with traditional Aran stitches, crafted from luxurious 100% Merino wool for a warm, elegant, and distinctly Irish layer.
Why You'll Love It
This is a cardigan for someone who appreciates the artistry of Aran knitting as much as its warmth and comfort.
The longer length and fitted shaping create an elegant, flattering silhouette, while the variety of cable patterns makes the cardigan visually striking from every angle. The Aran patterning continues across the front, back, and sleeves, showcasing the craftsmanship throughout the entire garment.
The full-length zip makes it easy to wear open or closed, while the double stand-up collar adds warmth and a sophisticated finishing touch.
The combination of trellis, rope, hugs and kisses, moss stitch, and zigzag cables gives this cardigan an exceptional richness of texture — a beautiful example of how traditional Irish knitting can be both deeply rooted in heritage and wonderfully modern.
Irish Heritage
Aran knitting is one of Ireland's most recognizable textile traditions. Its intricate cables, trellis patterns, moss stitch, and other raised stitches have become enduring symbols of Irish craftsmanship.
Traditional Aran garments are especially admired for the way multiple stitch patterns can be combined within a single piece. Each pattern creates its own texture, allowing the finished garment to become almost a canvas for the skill of the knitter.
This cardigan celebrates that tradition particularly well. Rather than relying on a single familiar Aran motif, it brings together a wide variety of heritage stitches and uses them to shape the garment itself.
